About Us
The Africa Health Financing Forum(AHFF) under the auspices of the Africa Economic Forum is dedicated to transforming health financing across the African continent. Conceived as a strategic convening of policymakers, development partners, private sector leaders, civil society organizations, and academic institutions, the Forum seeks to catalyse innovative, inclusive, and sustainable approaches to financing health systems. With Africa facing persistent challenges in achieving universal health coverage (UHC), the Forum provides a critical space for dialogue, collaboration, and action to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all.
At the heart of the Africa Health Financing Forum is the recognition that health is both a human right and a cornerstone of economic development. Despite notable progress in recent years, many African countries continue to grapple with underfunded health systems, high out-of-pocket expenditures, and limited access to essential services. The Forum addresses these issues head-on by fostering cross-sectoral partnerships, promoting evidence-based policy reforms, and exploring innovative financing mechanisms such as blended finance, health insurance schemes, and public-private partnerships.
The Forum’s agenda is shaped by the urgent need to mobilize domestic resources, optimize external aid, and align investments with national health priorities. It encourages governments to increase budgetary allocations for health, while also engaging non-traditional actors—such as fintech innovators and impact investors—to unlock new sources of funding.
